Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis is the field founded by Sigmund Freud in the process of discovering the unconscious. Although it looks like what many people imagine therapy to be, it is very different to modern psychology. Where psychology tends to be shorter and focused on clear goals (i.e. symptom reduction), each analysis is unique. It can’t be anticipated where it will go, for how long, or what the outcomes may be. When an analysand speaks to their analyst, there is only one rule - say whatever comes to mind. From this it may be possible to produce genuinely deep, transformative change.
